Namdeo was a contemporary and associate of Dnyaneshwar. He propagated the spirit of Bhagawat sect and bhakti. His life and character was untarnished so far. However, a certain piece was quoted by someone to claim that Namadeo had a dubious past.
The fifty-six verses apparently describing him in bad light have since been proved to be interpolations. In the present essay, additional references are cited to re-assert his unblemished character.
Only one like Namdeo, who himself was drenched in Viththal devotion, could understand the stature and achievement of his niece (as explained in the previous essay). The Mahanubhav sect had a feeling of spiritual competition with the Bhagawat sect. They spared no attempt to condemn the deity and their followers. In one such story it describes of Damodarpandit converting Namdeo to the Mahanubhav cult. However, the story does not refer to any previous misdeeds of Namdeo.. Had there been even a hint of any, they would have exploited it to the maximum extent.
The interpolated story mentions a dacoity at Aundhya Naganath. It is related to Pashupat Shaiva sect on the one hand and to the preceptor of Namadeo – Visoba Khechar - on the other. It is in no way related to the Kole Narasingpur mentioned in the concoction.
