Dharma kirtana could be a lecture, discourse or critique of religion. But Dnyandeva probably does not use the word with the same meaning. He has used the word ‘Dharmakirtan’ for his commentary of Geeta- Dnyaneshwari. An etymological source of Kirtan and kirti is sought. Dr. Dhere has mentioned the metaphor of Dnyanadeva. Dnyandeva describes that Geeta as a palace inlaid with gems.
One of the epigraphic references from District Chandrapur, from 1146 C.E. indicates a meaning of Dharmakirtan as a temple constructed for religious purpose. Thus it indicates that the term Dharma from Dharma kirtana and Dharmanidhan has the same meaning, but the dharma- kirtan is used differently with differing connotations. |
